Men's 3s -vs- Wotton-under-Edge
29 November 2008
4 - 0
Another good result and a clean sheet, saw Cheltenham 3XI retain their place at the top of Hereford and Gloucester 1 league. Wotton under edge, from their lowly position in H & G I provided better opposition than Cheltenham were expecting. Although dominating possession in the first 25 minutes, and creating a number of chances, Cheltenham failed to score. Two quick goals however, within a minute of each other, settled the nerves and Cheltenham went in 2-0 at half time. The second half was all Cheltenham, with Cheltenham creating numerous chances and Wotton being pressed further and further back into their own half. Cheltenham only conceded one short corner in the whole game and Matt Dixon in the Cheltenham goal had a very cold, lonely game as even the backs pressed into the Wotton half. Another good performance, but the strike rate from opportunities made needs to be improved.

Ladies 1s -vs- Clifton 2s
29 November 2008
2 - 4
Hosting Clifton, Cheltenham Ladies 1s continued the flowing, confident, attacking hockey that saw a deserved victory over local rivals Lansdown last week with an equally impressive start against top-of-the-table Clifton 2. The home side were 1-0 up and cruising at half-time with a well-worked penalty corner where Justine Naylor slipped the ball to Nat Lewis who found Emma Jones on the right post for an easy conversion. Clifton did not know what hit them in the first half as Cheltenham's attacking 5-3-2 formation paid dividends. However, Clifton are not top of the league for no reason - they came out strongly in the second half and quickly converted 2 penalty corners. Cheltenham continued to attack with Shelley Walker and Sophie Whittaker enjoying a lot of ball on the right. Cheltenham's pressure was rewarded with a penalty stroke which was converted by Kim Cook. Not content with the 2-2 score-line, Cheltenham pressed for the winner, but were caught against the run of play twice late -on. The final score of 2-4 was not reflective of the game, and the Cheltenham side can take pride in giving the top of the league side a real scare and run for their money.

Ladies 2s -vs- Bath Buccaneers 3s
29 November 2008

Freezing fog welcomed Cheltenham Ladies to a mid table clash against Bath Buccs. An away win would keep the team in contention just two points off the league leaders. A strong 2nd team went straight from the whistle scoring three in the first 20 minutes. Jo Taylor opened the scoring with a clinical strike from the top of the circle with Karen Keating following up quickly with some fancy stick skills beating players and hammering the ball home into the bottom left corner. Sophy Jowett extended the away teams lead after some great attacking play down the left. Issy Shayle and Rachel Chicken linking together with some quick passing to feed Jowett in the circle who calmly took the ball wide and slotted it passed the keeper. Cheltenham continued to apply the pressure in sometimes difficult circumstances creating opportunities and forcing Bath to play the ball round the back. Bath never seemed to get onto the attack with consistence and only one break through the strong Cheltenham defenders forced keeper Charlotte Collins to make an emphatic save between the posts. Some good linking play down the right hand line opened up chances for player of the match Daisy Noble to drive into the circle winning a penalty corner which was swiftly converted by centre back Fiona Maffey. Another confident win for newly promoted Cheltenham sees them challenging at the top of the table and settling amongst the high standard of the North Division.

Ladies 3s -vs- Wotton-under-Edge
29 November 2008
1 - 3
A very disappointing loss for Cheltenham Ladies 3s this week. Keeping possession was hard for Cheltenham in the first half, and the opposition took advantage of their breaks. On a positive note Cheltenham did display some good passing and teamwork in the second half, which lead to some good opportunities at goal and short corners. Player of the match was awarded to Jemma Jones for her efforts, skill and great versatility.
