Ladies 1s -vs- Clifton 2s
26 September 2009
0 - 2
Cheltenham had a hard first game of the season against Clifton. Cheltenham welcomed some new and returning players who brought with them confidence. They started well and the consistant hard working forwards of Jones, Lewis, Dowsett and Harding were unlucky not to convert some chances in the first half. Clifton had few chances but managed to score close to half time. Cheltenham just missed out on equalising through a short corner on the stroke of half time.
Coach G. Cartmell gave an encouraging team talk in the break and Cheltenham were keen to come out strong in the second half. Unfortuently Clifton scored another goal from a half chance and Cheltenham were unable to come back. Cheltenham are looking forward to playing county rivals Gloucester next weekend and are egar come away with a win and the first 3 points of the season.

Ladies 2s -vs- Wotton Bassett
26 September 2009
4 - 0
Under the leadership of new captain Sharon Clack, Cheltenham Ladies 2nd XI travelled to Wootton Bassett for the first league game of the season. Cheltenham exerted early pressure but were unable to penetrate the Bassett line up in the opening minutes. During some good linking play down the right hand side, Karen Keating slotted the ball home to give Cheltenham the lead 1-0 at half time.
A switch in positions and with the confidence to try some new set pieces the pressure remained one way. Another penalty corner and an excellent step over dummy enabled Sophy Jowett to set up a deflection for Becca Owen on the far post and extend the lead. Pushing forward all the time Corrie Farrel was untroubled in goal with defenders Angie Pearce and Daisy Noble absorbing any chances the home team had. Goals 3 and 4 came in quick succession with impressive stick skills winning penalty corners and clinical conversions coming from Charlotte Ellen and Simone Williams.
Overall a good performance from Cheltenham to kick off the season with still more in reserve to hold onto the top spot in the the North Division league.
Goal Scorers: Charlotte Ellen, Karen Keating, Becca Owen, Simone Williams
