Men's 2s -vs- Stroud

14 November 2009

4 - 2

Cheltenham made full use of the home advantage, belting out a series of crowd-pleasing moves and set plays early on in the game, and asserting their authority on the match. Ben Wright scored an excellent first goal, following a flowing passing move. Chris Hill also got on the score sheet from a deflected short corner, and Cheltenham went into half time 2-0 up. In the second half, Cheltenham showed their dominance once again, with Chris Hill adding a second, and Russell Brookes adding another to the score sheet, which was an absolute scorcher. Unfortunately, a couple of defensive lapses meant that Stroud scored twice, but by then, the result was beyond doubt. With 8 wins from 8, Cheltenham Men's 2s are three points clear at the top of the North Division 1 table.

Ladies 1s -vs- Isca

14 November 2009

0 - 4

Cheltenham set out at 7am through gale force winds to tackle top of the table Isca away from home. Starting strong, Cheltenham adapted to the water-based pitch quickly, moving the ball round the back and keeping possession. Full back Fiona Maffey threaded a pass to Daisy Noble on the right wing who took on players driving into the D only to be tackled cleanly. More chances came through centre half Lorna Bowman and Frankie Mayes, but against the run of play Isca made a quick break with their 3 pacey forwards overloading the 2 full backs and converting with style. Isca made the most of the home advantage scoring in quick succession and keeping a clean sheet. The league's top team showed why they will be vying for promotion in March. Cheltenham fought hard but came away 4-0 to the bad.

Player of the Match: Daisy Noble

Ladies 3s -vs- Shipton Oliffe

14 November 2009

3 - 3

Cheltenham were the first to score, in the first half with a goal from midfielder Jemma Jones following a well hit strike from open play. Battling against the wind and rain Cheltenham gave away a short corner from which Shipton took advantage, pulling the scores level at 1-1. As the rain ceased, Cheltenham continued to put pressure on the opposition and captain Becci Brown put the team in the lead again from a fast and powerful strike that beat the goalie from an attacking short corner. However as changeable as the weather, some slow passing, narrow play and tough tackling from Shipton meant Cheltenham lost possession and another goal was conceded from a short corner. As the rain started again, Cheltenham ladies 3s were frustrated to ship another goal, once again from a short corner, but fought back to 3-3 by forward Becky Owen after some brilliant movement of the ball between her and midfielder Francesca Owen in the opposition's D.
