Cheltenham 5 PLYMOUTH MARJONS 3

RICHARD FYNN netted a hat-trick to help Cheltenham win their place in the second round of the England Hockey Cup.

They produced a controlled display of hockey, which made their opposition chase the ball for long periods. Cheltenham produced a fantastic attacking display in the first half, scoring four goals, with two from Fynn and one apiece from Duffy and Hay. But they will have been disappointed to concede three sloppy goals to leave the score at 4-3 at half-time.

The second half turned out to be a much less action-packed 35 minutes with the hosts happy to keep possession. Plymouth did try to attack with numbers but with only 10 minutes remaining Cheltenham scored the decisive fifth on the break away, again from Fynn.

The home team, for whom Tom Gower produced a player-of-the-match performance, then closed the game out again with some well disciplined hockey.

CHELTENHAM II 7 ISCA II 0

CHELTENHAM cruised past Isca in their England Hockey second XI Trophy first round tie.

Jonty Lawford and Rich Whitfield scored two goals apiece and the others were scored by Jo Hammond, Troughton and Duffnote.

CHELTENHAM 3As 3 CHIPPENHAM 1

CHELTENHAM dominated the game and the scoreline could have been much different if it was not for some rusty strikers trying to find some match fitness.

Rob Cullimore and Timmy Williams-Ellis both impressed around the D but could not find a shot at goal.

Cheltenham started to go through the gears in the second half, which resulted some good ball retention and fine passing moves, which resulted in an uncharacteristic goal from the top of the D from Rich Whitfield and lovely backhand finish from Tarron Evans.

CHIPPENHAM II 2 CHELTENHAM 3s 4

CHELTENHAM came from behind to end their pre-season campaign in winning form.

They took the game to Chippenham and could have taken an early lead.

But it was the home side who opened the scoring when they broke through the Cheltenham defence, who had pushed too high in support of the early attacks.

Cheltenham hit back quickly with goals for Troughton and Goldsmith to give the visitors a 2-1 lead at half-time.

An early goal from Chippenham evened things up early in the second half but from then on it was Cheltenham with all the possession.

Club captain Gareth Lewis combined again with Brashaw to make it 3-2 and then Goldsmith closed the game out with his second.
