Vice Presidents
Election to the position of vice president is public recognition of an individuals contribution over many years to Cheltenham Hockey Club and reflects a commitment to the well-being and promotion of the club. These can range from a distinguished playing career to taking a long term role in the running of the club, or any contribution which has significantly benefited CHC. On election to VP, individuals are still encouraged to participate in club activities.
Nominations for the election to VP are received by the Executive Committee at any time and these are reviewed and discussed before being proposed to club members at the annual general meeting.
In exceptional cases, where VP's continue to make a significant ongoing commitment to the club, the CHC Executive Committee can propose that VP's be elected to the position of Life Vice President.
2008 Vice Presidents Day
Many thanks to everyone who attended the VP Day on Saturday 12th April 2008. We hope that the Vice Presidents enjoyed the day's activities as much as the club members did. It's always a great opportunity for VPs to share memories and anecdotes from days gone by, and for the younger club members to get an insight into the strong history of the club.
The day kicked off with the traditional match between the Vice Presidents XI and the Club President's Select XI. The game was played in great spirit, with the President's XI enjoying a narrow victory. Lunch was followed by an exciting match between Cheltenham Men's 1st XI and Gloucestershire County U17 boys. The U17 team put in an excellent performance, but were outplayed by the home team.

Wednesday XI
Although not directly affiliated to CHC, Cheltenham Wednesday XI is a side mostly made up of CHC Vice Presidents plus former players and invited guests. Most matches are played on Wednesdays (not surprisingly!) against either club veterans teams or against local schools such as Cheltenham College, Rencomb and many others.
The highlight of the year is undoubtedly the end of season golf day.For Season 2007/08, this was again held at Naunton Downs. Despite the appalling weather , the golf was again of the highest order and the tournament was won by David Waterson with a magnificent Stableford score of 42.
A quick AGM saw last years officers re elected unanimously and unopposed. Charles Baillie Hamilton then conducted the prize giving for the season. Prizes were given out by John Webb, ably deputising for John Rymer who was unable to make it for the evening.
2008 Playing record
Played 17, Won 11, Drawn 5, Lost 1, Goals For 77, Goals Against 36.
Top goal scorer was David Waterson with 14 followed by Tom Richardson with 12, and Willl Simmonds with 10. All in all, 12 players appeared on the scoresheet.
The player of the year was a unanimous decision and it went to General Spence, being cited for his incisive running, vision on and off the ball, sharp passing and his clinical touch in front of goal.
Finally the prestigious John Webb Calamity Stick Award for the player making the best pass out of defence to the opposing centre forward who then goes on to score was awarded to Gwyn Williams for his outstanding performance in his debut Wednesday XI match.
