Women's Teams

Hi, and welcome to the Women's section of Cheltenham Hockey Club!

We have three women's teams competing in various local leagues within the West Women's hockey set up and we cater for players of all standards and abilities. We have a team for you if you have been playing for ten years or just one! We play our home games at the easily accessible Balcarras School in Cheltenham, which has a great pitch, clubhouse and bar! The club also enters England Hockey's National Indoor Hockey League in which our ladies team came runners up in the final of the Plate competition against Cambridge City HC during the 2008-2009 season. The club also entered a team into the England Hockey Mixed Trophy Knockout Competition last season and after some eventful rounds the team finished 4th in the country, which rounded off a very successful season for everyone. Cheltenham offers a wide variety of hockey to get involved with, so if you love hockey; Cheltenham Hockey club has something for you.

Our ladies 1s compete in the West Premier Division 1 playing against teams such as Taunton Vale, Clifton Ladies 2s and local rivals Lansdown. Our ladies 2s were promoted to North Division in the 2008-2009 season and promoted again last season and will be competing in the West Premier Division 2 this year. Our 3s compete in the Severn Division 2 and this year beat league winners Badgers, and finished 4th in a very close table.

All teams are coached and supported by Gayle Ashby. Gayle has previously played for Cheltenham Hockey Club and has captained the 1st XI. She will be wearing her experienced coaching cap this season and we are all anticipating another positive and successful year for all three ladies teams, with a focus on promoting the Ladies 3s into Severn Division 1 and maintaining strong positions for the Ladies 1s and 2s.

Full club training is on a Thursday night at Balcarras from 6.30pm to 8pm, with everyone meeting for a run at 6pm, and an invitational 1st XI squad also trains on a Tuesday night.

At Cheltenham Hockey Club there is a huge social network among the ladies and men's clubs. Both support each other on and off the pitch and participating in our social events is a great way to experience this integration. We anticipate some exciting socials this season for everyone involved in the club, including the regular quiz and race night as well as the annual dinner dance, and hopefully a repeat of Demi's very successful curry night!
